Location
Sagene Folkebad is located at the top of Grünerløkka, at Sandakerveien 3. This historic gem was completed in 1899 and recently renovated in consultation with the City Antiquarian. In the spring of 2025, Oslo Sauna Association reopened the bath for the public!
Facilities
The bath offers two excellent saunas accommodating a total of 42–44 people, a fantastic shower area, bucket showers, cold plunge pools, and beautiful changing rooms with private cubicles and lockable lockers. There is also a comfortable common room with benches and some reading material. Additionally, you have access to a classic swimming pool (12.5 x 6 m) during many of the sauna sessions.
Swimwear or not?
- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday: Swimwear is required in the pool. In the saunas, you may either wear swimwear or cover yourself with a towel.
- Tuesday and Friday: Swimwear or nudity is optional in both pool and sauna. Always wear swimwear or a towel around your waist when moving between saunas, showers, and the pool.
Gender-inclusive sessions
Most sessions at Sagene are open to everyone, regardless of gender. On Fridays, there is a separate session for men/they at 15:00 and a separate session for women/they at 16:30.
Family swimming on Saturdays
- Family swimming is available from 08:30 to 15:30.
- Each adult may bring one child for free; additional children are charged NOK 95. Tickets must be booked even if free.
- Parents are responsible for the safety of their children.
- There is no separate children’s pool; all swimming takes place in the main pool.
- Each family session lasts 2 hours plus 20 minutes for changing.
Yoga + sauna
In collaboration with Leela Yoga, yoga classes are offered in one of the beautiful rooms at the bath. After yoga, you may visit the sauna and usually the pool. Learn more and book here.
Ritual Tuesdays
A volunteer team – consisting of both apprentices and fully trained aufguss masters – holds sauna rituals every Tuesday afternoon and evening at Sagene. These rituals are included in the regular drop-in hours (no extra payment).
Morning coffee/tea on weekdays
Organic coffee and tea (NOK 33) are served on weekdays from 06:30 to 10:00. Welcome to a delightful start to your day!
Prices
- Shared sauna, with or without pool access: NOK 150 for members, NOK 260 for non-members.
- Family sauna on Saturdays (08:30–16:00): Each adult may bring one child for free. Tickets must be booked even if free. Additional children: NOK 95. Each adult may bring up to three children.
- Private sauna: NOK 2500 for members, NOK 2800 for non-members. The private sauna at Sagene accommodates 17 people.

Hygiene
- Always shower naked before entering the pool, sauna, or cold plunge pool. Rinse and wring out swimwear used in the sauna.
- Changing cubicles and showers have curtains for privacy if desired.
- Sit on a towel in the sauna and library.
- Use a swim cap or tie up long hair when using the pool.
Safety and consideration
- All swimming and sauna use is at your own risk.
- Mobile-free zone. Phones and cameras must be left in the changing room.
- Lockable lockers are available; bring your own padlock or purchase one on site.
- Use a quiet voice, including in the pool.
- Alcohol is not permitted, and visibly intoxicated persons are denied entry.
- Sagene Folkebad is a safe and welcoming place for all. Report to staff if anything or anyone makes you uncomfortable, or if you suspect a safety issue.
