Hvervenbukta is a coastal gem in Nordstrand/Ljan. Here, you can swim year-round from a beautiful sandy beach, visit the café Anne på Landet, and enjoy the twin mobile saunas, Hugin and Munin. The area around the beach features stunning nature with large, old deciduous trees and a scenic coastal trail extending north from the bay.
Hvervenbukta is easily accessible by bike from the city center (approximately 8 kilometers along a good bike path along Mosseveien) or by bus 83 or 80E. The bus ride from the city center to the Fiskevollen stop takes about 15 minutes, followed by a 10-minute walk to the saunas.
If you are driving, there is a large parking area conveniently located next to the bay.
Hugin and Munin are the two mobile saunas at Hvervenbukta. Each sauna accommodates five people and is located at the top of the café’s garden. Currently, only one sauna is available for booking and only for public sauna use (private bookings and both saunas together will be available soon).
Both saunas are self-service. The person who books is responsible for cleaning and preparing the sauna for the next guests, as well as leaving and locking the sauna on time. Please always leave the sauna as you would like to find it. This is a trust-based system that we hope all guests will respect to ensure the service can continue. Instructions for use will be sent to your email upon booking.
Remember to bring swimwear, two towels, a water bottle, and optionally bathing shoes. Changing and storage of personal belongings takes place at the back of the saunas—please avoid leaving personal items on the café tables.
The saunas are approximately 30 meters from the sand beach. Most days of the year, the fjord water quality is good for swimming. After prolonged or unusually heavy rainfall, it is recommended to wait a day before swimming. Please note: no refunds are given on days when swimming in the fjord is not recommended.
Toilets are available along the road, approximately 20 meters from the saunas.
Public sauna at Hvervenbukta costs NOK 120 for members and NOK 200 for non-members.
Private sauna (not currently available) costs NOK 900 for members and NOK 1300 for non-members.
To receive these discounted member prices, a membership must first be created. You can do this here.
Independent of the saunas, there is a community of ice swimmers who gather at Hvervenbukta during the cold season. You can find more information about the Saturday Swimmers here.
We warmly welcome you to Hvervenbukta!
