The floating sauna village at Langkaia is just a few minutes’ walk from Oslo Central Station. Enjoy stunning views of the Opera House and the Munch Museum while taking a sauna in the heart of the city, surrounded by nature. See photos at the bottom of the page!
Langkaia features six saunas:
Bademaschinen, a large retro-inspired sauna complex with two saunas, a diving tower, and a communal plaza, dominates the village. Look out for the blue reception building, the bunad-patterned Rådhuset sauna, and several other unique structures.
The saunas are arranged along the pier, with a wide staircase leading down to the main sauna pier. If stairs are not accessible for you, we recommend visiting our other sauna village, Sukkerbiten.
The reception building’s ground floor houses two larger unisex changing rooms. Most saunas also have smaller changing rooms nearby.
All saunas have outdoor access with ladders into the fjord. Extra-wide ladders are located on the main pier below the arrival stairs. Bademaschinen also features a diving and observation tower for jumping or diving.
Water quality is generally good throughout the year, according to municipal measurements taken at Langkaia, Oslo’s central monitoring station. After prolonged or heavy rain, it is recommended to wait a day before swimming. This is indicated with signage. No refunds are given on days when fjord swimming is not recommended.
Freshwater cooling options include showers with hot and cold water at Bademaschinen’s plaza and at the north end of the reception building. There is also an ice-cold bucket shower. Two cold plunge pools are open when possible. Showering is required before using the plunge pools.
Staying hydrated is an important part of a sauna session. Bring a water bottle, which can be refilled at the diving tower at Bademaschinen and at the wall near the communal changing rooms.
Langkaia currently does not have toilet facilities, but these are planned for the future.
